​Professional Affiliations​​​

I belong to the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), and the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO).  I am provided legal protection from the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO).  Using the seven CANO Standards of Care for Oncology Nurses as a framework to guide my oncology nursing practice. As a Geriatric Oncology CNS, I collaborate daily with Oncologists, Geriatricians, Social Workers, Pharmacists, community nurses and oncology nurses, and hospital Directors and Administrators.  

 

The CNO, CANO, and RNAO all help to provide a framework of ethical, professional scope of practice for a CNS working in geriatric oncology, to which I can refer to easily and use to guide my work with families, patients, and colleagues.

Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)

The RNAO is a professional association responsible for representing all nursing professions in Ontario, to advocated for policy development that evolves the healthcare system and promotes excellence in nursing practice to the public it serves.

Member of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

The College of Nurses of Ontario is a legislative and governing body for all three types of nursing professions in Ontario: Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs).

Member of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) 

The CANO aims to advance oncology nursing professionalism through education, practice, research, and leadership  in providing cancer care. I am a currently a Certified Oncology Nurse by the CANO standards.  

I am a Certified Oncology Nurse through the Canadian Nurses Association

Within CANO I am a member of the CANO Oncology & Aging Special Interest Group Committee. 

 

Member of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology SIOG--Nursing and Allied Health Special Interest Group

The SIOG aims to foster the advancement of geriatric oncology nursing practice through international collaboration and networking related to nursing education, clinical practice, and research.

Cancer Care Organizations

Cancer Care Ontario

Oversees funding and governance of cancer care in Ontario, they engage with the public to develop and design care systems, and evaluate, monitor and measure performance of cancer care programs across the province.

​

Ontario Health Professions Act 

The Canadian Health Act mandates Medicare, a publicly funded healthcare system for all Canadians, to which all provinces and territories in Canada are responsible to regulate and legislate provincially to ensure just access to healthcare services with out cost for all individuals in the province.
